Discussions of Different Types of Houses A short study of caves that serve as houses for animals and people included a field trip to a cave to note the darkness in the cave. Children had wanted their clubhouse to be without windows (preserving the secrecy). It became clear to the children during the cave visit that the clubhouse would be very dark without windows. The children also mentioned tepees as another kind of house. With books and other resources the class embarked on a short study of tepees and Indians. They drew tepees and constructed clay models of tepees. And then a serendipitous event occurred-- The circus arrived in town! A parent suggested that the children go to watch the raising of the tent--another structure used as a house. Children witnessed the tent being raised by elephants. This trip took place only days before the framing and raising of the walls of the clubhouse. Select BACK BUTTON to continue the clubhouse project story. To select another project click here |
