Working on the inside of the clubhouse
Children learned the uniqueness of drywall nails which are
shorter and larger than most nails and that drywall is easier to nail in to than wood.
They learned that 'arks' show up more in drywall because it is softer and it crumbles if
nailed too close to the edge, making chalk which children could write with. Children
decided to use joint compound upon receiving advice from one of the 'builder' fathers.
Ali, Ashley, Taylor, Casey, and Elizabeth taped and filled in between the cracks of
sheetrock before painting. This group of children was most
responsible for completing the interior. They talked and drew pictures together to plan
for the painting of the interior walls. They experimented with stripes, murals of seasons,
and rainbow names. One day while several of this group were at the easel, they decided on
hand prints for the interior walls. During the hand printing/painting, children took
particular notice of lines in hands, sizes of hands, and similarities and differences of
each other's hands.
