Field Work -- The Clubhouse Project: a construction site visit

During the visit to the construction site the children learned about studs, drywall, insulation, plumbing, and fixtures in the walls. The father in charge of the site explained hard hats, safety goggles, levels, nail guns, and power tools. He also demonstrated the tools for the children. He had purchased what he considered to be important tools for builders--a level, a hammer, a retractable measuring tape, and a builder's square--to donate to the preschool. He also gave each child a carpenter's pencil. The father/builder showed the children how to show their parents how to whittle the end to make it sharp since carpenter's pencils are too fat to fit into a pencil sharpener.
