Field Work -- The Clubhouse Project

One of the children had noticed a home under construction on the same street as the preschool. The teacher used this opportunity to teach the children how to politely ask for something they needed from strangers. There was a lengthy class discussion and practice before walking to the site to make the request. Two children were selected by the class to ask the construction workers if they could have the scrap wood. "Excuse me, we go to preschool down the street, may we use your left-over lumber for the clubhouse we are building?" The workers said yes. The children carried and stacked the wood.
