The Clubhouse Project: How All Children Have Participated

Working on a common project helped this class to form a close social group. The common interest of the clubhouse gave them a sense of unity and desire to cooperate. All children's self images were enhanced as the clubhouse actually took form. All parts of the day became easier from a classroom management standpoint even when children were not working on the clubhouse. Elizabeth and Jennifer were more interested in the birdhouses and the future garden area. They were not as interested in the building. They were anxious to be involved in the painting, planting, and bird watching. Several children became more interested in the finished project and how it would look and what would be in the playhouse--such as dolls, cradles, housekeeping area, and flowers.
